XM Satellite Weather Now Available in Business Aircraft Cabins

Innovative Moving Map feature is a first for savvy passengers

Flight Display Systems provided an exciting look at an innovative new Moving Map feature today. For the first time ever, live XM Satellite Weather information is available for passengers in aircraft cabins across the United States. The Flight Display Moving Map is the only passenger information system that can provide real-time NEXRAD weather conditions relative to the aircraft present position, such as thunderstorms and rain.

“We are giving passengers more information, and that means more entertainment,” said David Gray, Flight Display Systems’ Founder. “Our company is completely committed to Moving Maps in the corporate and business jet market. This new Weather upgrade raises the bar for pertinent flight information in the cabin.”
This special upgrade package was developed at the request of Flight Display Systems’ customers.
“Owners/operators want to know what sort of weather they can expect at their destination,”said Ron Hainsworth of BizJet, a Lufthansa Technik Company. “Now there is an option to display weather information in the cabin from Flight Display Systems.”
The professional weather presentation includes NEXRAD graphics that are updated every five minutes. Live weather information is overlaid on top of rich topographical maps with city names and state borders. Weather is color-coded to indicate storm level severity. Maps are dynamically drawn 50-, 500-, and 2500-miles wide relative to the aircraft present position. The Weather Upgrade is available now for $1,997 plus installation from a network of Avionics Dealers. Weather service is available wherever XM satellite signal reaches. The Weather Upgrade includes a one-year extended warranty on the Flight Display Moving Map computer. An external antenna, such as the CI420-1 antenna (List price $593 through DAC International) is required if XM is not already being used in the aircraft. In addition, a WxWorx WXP03D8V receiver (List price $930) and a monthly subscription service fee of $29.99 is required to activate XM Aviator LT service. The Moving Map Weather Upgrade is made possible by an innovative team of engineers, programmers and avionics technicians from Flight Display Systems. This is the second XM-compatible product from Flight Display Systems; their Satellite Radio Amplifier (DAPS360-X) was introduced last year at the 2005 NBAA Convention.
