Flight Display Systems has introduced the FDHDR200, a High-Definition Digital
Video Recorder (HD-DVR) designed for rugged aviation use. It features 1080i
HD resolution, up to eight hours of record time, and 50% smaller installation
profile than legacy VHS recorders. The HD-DVR is available today in two versions,
including a remote cockpit configuration for helicopter installations. Download

The FDHDR200 is a High-Definition Digital Video Recorder for Aviation

In-flight reliability and premium video quality are two things we
are very passionate about," said David Gray, President of Flight Display
Systems. "The HD-DVR has been in development for almost one year and we
are pleased to introduce it at HELI-EXPO."

Launch customers have already purchased the FDHDR200 for delivery in late February
2010. Customer use includes surveillance, mission debriefing, litigation, and
training reviews. At half the size of a typical VCR and weighing just 4 lbs
10 oz (2.1kg), Flight Display Systems anticipates many more unique applications
  for this product.

The FDHDR200 is capable of recording 1080i video from an HD-SDI camera or other

to perform a variety of functions, including bit rate adjustment, system status
  checks, and CompactFlash card testing.

These simple entertainment systems are also suitable for helicopters. They
have recently installed a system which comprises two fold-down monitors in the
cabin roof of an Agusta 109 Power, together with a moving map computer and a
DVD player. This arrangement is ideally suited to short-duration flights of
the kind that helicopters typically undertake.

Contrasting with the basic entertainment need of short-haul flights is the
system the dealer has recently fitted to a new HBC King Air 350. With eight
seats in the cabin, each equipped with their own 7in LCD screen (p/n FD70ARM),
passengers can watch a selection of material from any of three DVD players or
the moving map computer. The moving map means passengers can see accurately
where they are and the route they are travelling. Use of the Flight
Display Systems map computer provides excellent data at a much more
affordable level than systems offered by major avionic systems manufacturers.
The map computer also provides for customised charting.

Uniquely, this King Air 350 also features a camera (p/n FD600CAM) which
has been mounted on the belly to enable the passengers to watch take-off and
landing and gives an excellent view of the ground. It also means they can watch
the landing gear raise and lower, which gives added interest.

An ingenious and exciting extra that the dealer has incorporated on this King
Air is the integration of video iPods, so that passengers can plug their own
iPods into a cable-free customised dock. It means every passenger can choose
to view any of the available DVDs, the moving map or the picture from the belly-mounted
camera, and in addition, have their own iPod routed exclusively to their own
  seat.

As
well as the cabin entertainment system, they have added another small LCD screen
  in the cockpit, the
‘Flipper’, from Flight Display Systems. It allows the flight crew to monitor
the belly camera so they can see the undercarriage operation. The screen folds
away when not required, and, importantly, doesn’t obscure the view of
any other instruments while it is in operation.

The whole package on the KingAir 350 is a fully integrated audio/visual system
for the cabin and it competes head-on with any top-of-the-line systems that
are installed in the latest corporate jets. It can be fitted to any corporate
aircraft and is an expandable system.

The First Cabin Management System Released for High-Definition

Flight Display Systems is presenting the Select CMS, a new Cabin
Management System (CMS) introduced for the first time at NBAA 2009. Passengers
can manage High-Definition video sources, audio, window shades, lighting, temperature,
and many more cabin amenities with an easy touchscreen interface. Most importantly,
the Select CMS is the industry’s first retrofit CMS with a High-Definition video
backbone, giving passengers amazing video quality to enjoy popular Blu-ray movies
during flight. It is available today with a 60-day lead time.

Control Panel for Select CMS (part number CCM43)

The Flight Display Systems Select CMS offers more control, easier configuration,
and higher quality video at a better price than any other CMS on the market
today," said David Gray, President of Flight Display Systems. "The
result is a quantum increase in quality for the passengers."

Flight Display Systems worked with a variety of completion and OEM service
centers to define the system requirements for this new CMS. It can support retrofit
projects of all sizes, from smaller turboprop aircraft and helicopters up to
  wide body airliners.

This new cabin management system is the first in the industry to include true
High-Definition video interfacing. HD source equipment such as the Flight Display
Systems Blu-ray DVD player or the Flight Display Systems Jet Jukebox can be
displayed throughout the cabin at up to 1080p resolution.

The Select CMS is composed of several components. Each system requires an Audio
Crosspoint Switch, a Video Crosspoint Switch, and an Accessory Interface Node.
Passengers control the system through multiple Cabin Control Modules (touchscreen
and button displays) placed throughout the cabin in popular places such as arm
  rests and side walls.

Each configuration is highly customized by a dedicated Project Manager at Flight
Display Systems. Pricing is determined after a detailed mapping of the aircraft
and configuration of the components has been specified by the installation center.

At the NBAA 2009 Annual Convention, Flight Display Systems introduced a new
MP3 player for in-flight entertainment systems. The 6 Genre Music Player provides
up to 90 hours of music in one compact unit. Six independent memory cards hold
up to 15 hours of music. Each card can be programmed by the user for different
genres of music simultaneously broadcast throughout the cabin.

Our goal was to make it as easy as possible for someone to have additional
channels of audio entertainment," said David Gray, President of Flight
Display Systems. "Many operators are still flying with multiple Compact
Disc players. This was designed to be a straightforward replacement."

The device weighs just 10.6 oz (.3 kg) and features ultimate simplicity. There
are no buttons or switches to play, pause, or control the music. When power
is applied, the music immediately begins playing the files in a continuous loop
  of crisp stereo sound.
